Carlo Alberto Pisani Dossi nasce a Zenevredo, in provincia di Pavia, il 27 marzo 1849.Erede di una famiglia di proprietari terrieri, si trasferisce a Milano nel 1861.Legato politicamente a Francesco Crispi, Dossi diviene presto, nel 1870, Console a Bogot . Sar poi segretario particolare di Crispi nel 1887, ministro plenipotenziario ad Atene, dove si innamora dell'archeologia, e negli ultimi anni di vita Governatore dell'Eritrea.
Dopo la caduta del governo Crispi abbandona la carriera diplomatica per ritirarsi con la moglie e i tre figli nella sua villa di Corbetta. Amori un'opera originale composta da undici capitoli, con l'ultimo che funge da riepilogo, ognuno dedicato ad un amore indicato anche come cielo, dando cos all'opera il fascino d'una struttura dantesca.
