The Israel of the Alps: A History of the Persecutions of the Waldenses is a book written by Alexis Muston. It is a historical account of the Waldensian people, a Christian movement that originated in the 12th century in the French Alpine region of Lyon. The book details the persecution and suffering endured by the Waldenses, who were considered heretics by the Catholic Church and were subject to numerous attempts at extermination. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the Waldensian history, from their origins as a Christian sect to their eventual settlement in the Alpine valleys of Italy and France. It documents the various methods used by the Catholic Church to suppress the Waldenses, including the use of military force, torture, and the Inquisition. The Israel of the Alps also explores the impact of the Waldensian movement on the wider world, including their influence on the Protestant Reformation and their role in the development of the modern-day Protestant church. The book offers a detailed analysis of the Waldensian faith, including their beliefs, practices, and customs. Overall, The Israel of the Alps is a compelling and informative read for anyone interested in the history of the Waldensian people and their impact on the Christian faith. It offers a unique perspective on the religious conflicts of the medieval period and sheds light on a little-known chapter in European history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
