Finally, Padruig is able to return to start to rebuild and re-plant crops, but years later with still an incomplete home in which to house his family, Isobel once again finds herself alone trying to battle keeping the family together when he is taken from her again into service in New France. At the hands of the English-Hanoverian Government, Isobel battles to survive and tries to carve a livelihood out of the ever-diminishing opportunities in the Highlands as the Clearances strip the land of more and more people.
