The Iphigenia In Tauris Of Euripides is a play written by the ancient Greek tragedian Euripides. This particular edition of the play was published in 1915 and is a translation by Gilbert Murray. The play tells the story of Iphigenia, the daughter of Agamemnon, who was sacrificed to the gods by her father in order to secure favorable winds for the Greek fleet during the Trojan War. However, the goddess Artemis intervened and saved Iphigenia, taking her to the land of Tauris. In Tauris, Iphigenia is a priestess who must perform human sacrifices to appease the gods. The play follows Iphigenia as she struggles with her duty to the gods and her desire to return home to Greece.
