This is a reproduction of An Introductory Lecture, Delivered Before the American Institute of the City of New-York, originally presented in 1835 by T.B. Wakeman. The lecture provides insights into the aims and activities of the American Institute of the City of New-York during its early years. Wakeman's address offers a snapshot of intellectual and social concerns of the time, reflecting broader trends in American society and the development of civic institutions.
