It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, said the Lord Jesus Christ, a statement that greatly astonished the disciples at that time and has continued to astonish many throughout the generations. St. Clement expounded on the encounter between the rich young ruler and Christ, an encounter that showed high hopes at the start, yet ended with the rich man walking away in despair. Is it sinful to be rich? Can a rich person be saved? St. Clement of Alexandria, a Church Father who was born in the second century AD and became the head of the Catechetical School at Alexandria, answers these questions and others in this treatise, providing an understanding that is as relevant and applicable to us today as it was many centuries ago.
