The Interim

Donovan Finn has always believed in control.

Rules make sense. Deadlines make sense. Structure makes sense.

People do not.

When a chaotic apartment transfer, conflicting move dates, and invasive maintenance staff push Donovan to the edge, the last thing he needs is a new boss-Zacharias Holt, a rigid manager whose obsession with compliance makes Donovan feel like he's staring into a darker version of himself.

But when Donovan's estranged younger brother Elias unexpectedly asks for help, old wounds reopen.

Elias is everything Donovan has never understood-an emotional musician, impulsive, struggling financially, and caring for a girlfriend whose medical condition has pushed them both to the breaking point.

Then the impossible begins.

A voice in an empty hallway.

A transfer packet filling itself out.

Messages that know too much.

A presence that speaks in the language of leases, attendance, escalation, and compliance.

As reality begins to warp around apartment hallways, hotel rooms, office emails, and forgotten waiting spaces, Donovan is forced to confront something far worse than a haunting:

A system that feeds on abandonment, bureaucracy, and the people left trapped in between.

With help from familiar faces in the KSPS universe-including Jo, Jon, Clem Ravenwood's Chicago team, and others-Donovan must uncover the truth behind a forgotten woman named Mara before the process claims his brother... and him.

Because some monsters do not hide in shadows.

Some hide in paperwork.

The Interim is a chilling supernatural thriller blending liminal horror, psychological suspense, emotional family drama, and shared-universe paranormal mystery from the world of The Vacancy, The Vanishing, and Exit Zero.
