In The Days Of Jefferson, Or The Six Golden Horseshoes: A Tale Of Republican Simplicity is a historical fiction novel written by Hezekiah Butterworth and published in 1900. The story is set during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson and follows the adventures of two young boys, Jack and Tom, who set out to deliver a message to the president. Along the way, they encounter various historical figures and events, including the Lewis and Clark expedition and the Burr conspiracy. The title refers to a legend that Jefferson had six golden horseshoes made for his horse, which represented the six states that had joined the Union during his presidency. The novel explores themes of patriotism, loyalty, and the ideals of the early American republic. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
