The Idol of the Blind is a novel written by Tom Gallon and first published in 1899. The story is set in London and follows the life of a young woman named Dora who is born blind. Despite her disability, Dora is a talented musician and is able to make a living playing the piano in a local tavern. Dora's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets a wealthy and influential man named Sir John Laverock. Sir John is immediately taken with Dora's musical talent and offers to help her achieve fame and success as a performer. Dora is grateful for Sir John's assistance, but she soon discovers that his intentions are not entirely pure. As Dora's career takes off, she becomes increasingly dependent on Sir John's support and finds herself drawn into a web of deceit and manipulation. She must navigate the dangerous waters of London's high society while trying to protect her own interests and those of the people she loves. The Idol of the Blind is a gripping tale of ambition, love, and betrayal set against the backdrop of Victorian London. It explores the themes of power, class, and the struggle for independence in a society that often denies opportunities to those who are different. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
