The Idiot is a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky, originally published in 1869. The book tells the story of Prince Myshkin, a young man who returns to Russia after spending several years in a Swiss sanatorium. Myshkin is described as being kind and compassionate, but also naive and innocent. He is often referred to as the idiot due to his lack of social skills and understanding of the world around him.The novel is divided into four parts, each of which explores different aspects of Myshkin's life and relationships. In the first part, Myshkin meets and falls in love with a young woman named Nastasya Filippovna. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Nastasya is also pursued by two other men, Rogozhin and Ganya. In the second part of the novel, Myshkin becomes involved in the lives of the Epanchin family, who are wealthy aristocrats. He becomes close friends with the family's youngest daughter, Aglaya, but their relationship is also complicated by the fact that she is engaged to another man.The third part of the novel focuses on Myshkin's relationship with Rogozhin, who becomes increasingly obsessed with Nastasya and ultimately kills her in a fit of jealousy. Myshkin tries to intervene and prevent the tragedy, but he is ultimately powerless to stop it.The final part of the novel sees Myshkin's mental health deteriorate as he becomes increasingly isolated and alienated from society. He is eventually forced to leave Russia and return to the sanatorium in Switzerland where he spent his earlier years.Overall, The Idiot is a complex and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of love, jealousy, power, and mental illness. It is widely regarded as one of Dostoevsky's greatest works and a masterpiece of Russian literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
