This book sheds light on several significant aspects of the history of Black Bantu people on Colombia's Atlantic coast in the 18th century. Indeed, *Identities and Memory of Black Bantu* is part of an effort to present to the academic community research being conducted on the Bantu of 18th-century Colombia. Thus, religiosity, the role played by the drum at various moments in the daily lives of slaves, language, and dance are all key cultural expressions they employed during religious and popular ceremonies at that time. This study is the result of participant observation in a Colombia characterized by racial inequalities and the blatant denial of recognition of Black contributions to the formation of the modern Colombian nation.
