I was raised Catholic, so I know what the Catholic Church teaches.
Sometimes that statement is true. But sometimes being raised Catholic means receiving a collection of childhood memories, unexplained rules, family customs, and incomplete answers-without ever encountering the faith as a coherent adult vision.
What if the Catholicism someone rejected was never what the Catholic Church actually taught?
This charitable pocket guide examines seven familiar claims:
- Catholics worship Mary
- The pope is supposed to be perfect
- Catholics believe they earn salvation
- The Church banned the Bible
- Constantine invented Catholicism
- The Mass re-crucifies Jesus
- Catholic Tradition contradicts Scripture
Each claim is tested against Scripture, Christian history, the Catechism, councils, and early Christian witnesses.
This book does not dismiss the experiences of former Catholics or pretend that Catholics and Church leaders have always lived the faith well. Poor formation, hypocrisy, scandal, mistreatment, and unanswered questions have caused real harm. Correcting a misconception does not erase that failure.
But serious criticism should address what the Church actually teaches-not a caricature assembled from childhood memories, internet arguments, individual opinions, and misconduct the Church itself condemns.
Written for former Catholics, returning Catholics, curious Protestants, OCIA participants, parish groups, and anyone reconsidering the faith they inherited, this guide offers an honest reintroduction rather than a pressure campaign.
You may still disagree with Catholicism.
But disagree with the real thing.
Includes a thirty-day reintroduction, discussion questions, primary Catholic sources, early Christian writings, historical documents, and biblical passages for continued study.
