I Want to Learn Greek is based on the memories of the author as a child attending Greek school. It is a nostalgic book with original, historical photos for people of all ages. It is an educational book that transports young readers to the world of Greek migrant children growing up in Australia during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Based on a song that has multiple levels it is also suitable for the teaching of older students on themes of Identity, Nationalism, Education and Family. This unique picture book is part of the Hellenic Theorem series by Greek Australian author Eleni Elefterias and is brimming with historic photographs, offering a relatable and joyful, and at times problematic, exploration of their experiences as they attended Greek school to learn the language, history, and culture of Greece.
