I Thought He Was My Friend is a compelling and sensitively crafted children's book authored by psychotherapist and victim services counsellor Karen Phillip. This empowering story addresses the important topic of protecting children from predatory grooming behaviour by a family adult friend. In this heartwarming tale, young readers are introduced to the brave and curious child who navigates the world with trust and innocence. The story revolves around the young child's experiences with an adult friend who initially seems friendly and caring but ultimately demonstrates inappropriate behaviour. It delicately explores the emotional journey of a child, emphasising the importance of recognising boundaries, speaking up, and seeking help from trusted adults. With a sensitive approach, the author skilfully communicates the essential message that no child should endure inappropriate or harmful behaviour, even if it comes from someone they trust. I Thought He Was My Friend encourages open dialogue between children and their carers, promoting awareness and providing valuable tools to protect against potential dangers. This thoughtfully written children's book offers a safe and age-appropriate platform to discuss a difficult topic, ensuring that children gain the knowledge and confidence to recognise, prevent, and respond to inappropriate situations. By empowering children with essential information, I Thought He Was My Friend equips them to protect themselves and seek support from trusted adults.
