its flowering had come too late in the harvest.
Its strength bent by storms.
A soft, pillowy bed made useless by hail and rot,
the seed heads calling out,

I am not spoiled!
See me for all of my damage.
Love me for my useful parts. * * * * * * * *
We are temporary structures,
born of carbon from long-dead stars.
Their dying, a gift that feels heavy
like the burden to become something wonderful.
