When it comes to Kelsey Kasischke's motivation for writing and releasing I Can Only Offer You Everything, the book's dedication says it all: for the reader who thinks like me, feels like me, falls like me, dreams like me- I hope you find a little bit of yourself somewhere in these pages.
The author's second work is a testament to love in all of its forms- romantic, platonic, spiritual, self, and familial- and is divided into four sections, each of which provides a distinct view of one or more of these forms of love and is written with either the past, present, or future in mind. There's Sincerity, a reflection on past-to-present romances, friendships, and almosts that toed that friends-to-lovers line oh-so carefully; Alchemy, a glimpse into the ongoing journey of learning to love and care for oneself enough to fall in love with life once again; Verity, an open letter to like-hearted readers in search of the truths that the author herself wishes she'd known sooner; and Reverie, a compilation of somedays and daydreams about a future love, a future life.
While the book's four sections- which the author likes to think of as what I've felt, where I've been, what I know, and what I crave- are in some ways vastly different from one another, they have one particularly important commonality: complete and total honesty. A vulnerability that just might expose exactly what you've been thinking and feeling but haven't yet had the courage, or the opportunity, to voice yourself. It's raw, it's real, and it's sugarcoat-free.
In other words, I Can Only Offer You Everything does not shy away from sitting with you in your pain, your heartbreak, your struggle- but neither is it content to leave you there.
So, if you're one among the like-hearted thinkers, the feelers, the fallers and dreamers: read on.
But before you do, be warned: what these pages can't offer you is a half-truth or watered-down emotion.
No,
only everything.
