Despite working with doctors and therapists for more than 10 years, the aftereffects of childhood abuse continued to plague Serena. She felt hopeless and she didn't know where to turn. That's when she met the woman who would change her life by teaching Serena how to connect to her soul through breath. This connection marked the beginning of her authentic healing journey.
The author's commitment to integration and healing is the focus of this book. It draws on the counseling sessions' real, lived experiences and practical techniques, making Serena's memoir a tool rather than just a testimony. By practicing the breath, Serena finally came into her body, which gave her a sense of authentic safety for the first time. Being deeply anchored in her physicality gave Serena emotional and mental stability. It enabled her to move from victim consciousness to empowerment. She stopped believing the lie that there was something inherently wrong with her. It offered her insight, allowing her to move from self-hatred, judgment, guilt, and shame to authentic compassion and self-love, eventually setting herself free. Gradually, her devotion to integration and healing brought about wholeness, revealing her true identity in the process.
Her book culminates in triumph over the darkness of her past, proving that another way does exist. That no matter what a person has experienced, they can be done with the pain of their past, proving conclusively how resilient we are as individuals and that we get to choose how we want to live.
