Project Report from the year 2013 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 75, University of Newcastle upon Tyne (School of Computing Science), course: Advanced Computer Science, language: English, abstract: Simulating the growth of human brain is a computationally intensive task, requiring heavy CPU and GPU clusters. Considering growth in the area of Web-based simulation along with its advantages over traditional simulation technologies, this project proposes a Web-based model for simulating the growth of human brain. Also, emphasis is given to test the new, feature rich HTML5 technology in order to discourage browser dependencies or additional plugin requirement. Two categories of Web-based simulation-remote simulation and visualization and hybrid simulation and visualization, have been developed and tested in this project. Results showed that latter approach that uses HTML5 for data visualization is more efficient both in terms of overall execution time and server space consumption.
