Robert Mason goes to his bank to withdraw cash to buy a CD player. Heavily armed young women burst in and demand money. The teller hands over the money but also activates a secret alarm. As the police approach, the young women take an elderly lady as a hostage. Moved by the elderly lady's distress, Robert takes her place. The robbers elude the police and take Robert to their hideout in the country. Their problem is what to do with him. If they release him, he will lead the police to them. They decide to kill him but he manages to escape before they can do so. Although free, Robert does not seem to be able to get his life back together again. His ordeal has affected him mentally and also he has formed an attachment to one of the women in the house in which he was held. He becomes obsessed with her but she doesn't want anything to do with him.
