An exceptional document of a father and his two sons who describe their eleven years on the run. A year ago, in March 2009, began Xavier Fortin's trial. In 1997, following a serious argument with his wife, the couple decide to divorce but cannot agree on who shall bring up their children and how. The idea of not living with his boys in symbiosis with nature as they have done for years is impossible to bear for Xavier and he runs off, taking with him Shani Yéna and Okwari. For eleven years, the three of them will live a life on the run that will take them to the four corners of France. Several times they will be forced to leave everything, invent new identities and find a new home, hidden in the nature. Their everyday life in the margins of society has, nevertheless, a calm routine. In the morning, Xavier dispenses lessons; the afternoon is reserved for reading and the discovery of nature. In the evening they visit friends and learn to appreciate music. Shani Yéna, the eldest, becomes an avid reader and nature lover. Okwari loves science and dreams of becoming a professional coachman. The question is, does one have the right to live completely off the grid? Is there a greater chance for happiness in such a marginal life or do certain profound deficiencies put a crack in what looks like perfect harmony? With the utmost authenticity the Fortins deliver their deepest feelings, their doubts, their vulnerability and, especially, their intimate certainty that they could have done a lot worse than choosing to follow their self-determined path to freedom.
