Hopeless is a thoroughbred race horse with a breeder pedigree so discouraging that the owner feels the name perfectly describes the stallion's racing prospects. But the owner, a Chinese American lady, knows the feeling of being written off as worthless. Medical problems forced her to have a hysterectomy when she was 17, and being unable to have children, she was deemed worthless as a prospective wife in her Chinese culture. A young Sudanese girl has experienced the horrors of being a sex slave to a rebel army, and life doesn't get much more hopeless than that. And an Irish lad, slightly autistic and dyslexic, grew up with his family and neighbors writing him off as a total loser. But fate brings them all together, and the resulting story is resoundingly positive, uplifting, inspiring. They are all remarkable in their own special ways, and when they get together, an enchanting miracle happens.
