Journey into the tear-jerking account of one woman's harrowing experience in The Gambia's penal system. How did she survive? ...a reflection of the physical, emotional, and psychological trauma of each of her mates in prison and, by proxy, the whole nation. - Dr. Momodou Darboe...an excellent narrative that reminds you of our shared struggle and the significance of building community to keep hope alive. - Jama JackHow do you justify the wrongful imprisonment of a woman who found herself swept up in a justice system stacked against her? What happens when a husband and his children refuse to stand down in the face of injustice?Hope Is Not Dead is a story of one woman's harrowing experience in The Gambia's penal system. Fanta Darboe-Jawara, daughter to Ousainu Darboe, became a victim of an authoritarian regime after a walk back home led to her arrest and detainment as a political prisoner.Sillah, Ph.D and Jawara journey into the political history and laws of The Gambia meant to protect the people, but instead, end up harming them. Fanta's story testifies about what happens when unfettered powers are vested in one individual. Nevertheless, this book is also about hope - that perfectly imperfect beast that rears its head in the darkest pits of your soul when all seems lost.
