There is life after abuse. So many people deal with hurt, pain and shame of the past, daily. As an adult, Bessie Bolden felt unloved, unwanted, and used, all which was the result of the sexual abuse she endured at the hands of her father. This behavior started when she was six years old and continued until she was thirteen. Being so young and innocent, Bessie thought that this was his way of telling her that he loved her. As a result, she got into relationships where men abused her and treated her poorly. In her tainted perception, this was also their way of expressing their love for her. Her life was set on a path of self-destruction.
