Vanesa and Lorena are sisters, but their sisterhood is not based on blood. Vanesa is the eldest, adopted from a village in Italy, while Lorena is the biological daughter of a middle-class couple from Buenos Aires. Through Vane's eyes, we follow the childhood, adolescence and adulthood of these two women who struggle, each in her own way, to find their place in the world.
The eldest, obedient and rule-oriented, soon becomes Lore's true caregiver, as both parents spend their days away from home trying to achieve prosperity for the family. Everything seems to be in harmony until Lore enters puberty; her rebelliousness is revealed with violence, first towards Vane, who will distance herself from this relationship she no longer understands in order to search for her own identity.
Hermanas (Sisters) tells the story of two possible ways of being, of the crossroads to find each other again and, ultimately, of unconditional love. With concise and forceful prose, Gisela Antonuccio creates a moving story of devotion, forgiveness, and roots.
