In the 1940s, young George is destined for stardom when he is offered the lead role in the original motion picture, Huckleberry Finn. His father, a religious fundamentalist, puts an end to his dream, declaring movies as sinful.
Shortly after, based on a true story, the George's parents mysteriously disappear. Their ultra-traditional aunt tries to take both him and his younger brother Oscar in. Still reeling from the recent events, they are unable to adapt to a life of being bound to rigid, strict, unyielding expectations.
They decide to run away, surviving alone, on the streets of Stockton.
Decades later, when George dies under mysterious circumstances, his daughter Elena finds herself face to face with Oscar, his only living relative; an uncle she has never met.
The eulogy he delivers detonates, tearing open a silence forged decades ago and left behind like a scorched shell. Off-script and unfiltered, Oscar reopens wounds and heals others in the same breath.
