Hazel the Helpful Chipmunk is the go-to helper of Maple Shade Woods-her toolbelt always jingling, her cheeks stuffed with tiny scrolls of to-dos. She says yes to everything: repairing signs, stacking logs, polishing nests, and fetching firewood. But when a sleet storm threatens the forest's food supply, Hazel volunteers to lead the build of a brand-new Winter Food Library... all by herself.
Soon, exhaustion creeps in. Her plans blur. Her checklist smears in the rain.
That's when a gentle paw and warm words from Grandpa Walnut remind her: being helpful doesn't mean going it alone.
With support from her friends and a new system of shared tasks, Hazel transforms from overcommitted fixer to collaborative leader-one who asks, rests, and builds stronger together.
Her journey ends with a warm cup of cocoa, a glowing Library, and a brand-new checklist she shares with every young helper in the woods.
★ What Kids Will Learn
Hazel's story introduces Hazel's Help Checklist, a four-step strategy children can use to practice healthy giving:
