Hanging off the Poet Tree is a sizable collection of poems written by J.R. Andrew. The poems are accompanied by an explanation that describes the events and feelings that led to the creation of each poem. The author begins this poetic journey in his teenage years and brings the reader into his adult thoughts. Love and death are the core substance of these poems while serious social issues that have touched the author's life are embedded throughout. The title, Hanging off the Poet Tree was inspired by a suicide attempt witnessed by the author when he was seventeen. With that knowledge it is easy to understand the themes, coping mechanisms and emotions that have led the author to publish his writings.
