Hajduk Stanko najpoznatiji je istorijski roman s kraja 19. veka. Nadahnut junastvom srpskog naroda i njegovom neukrotivom zeljom za oslobodjenjem od Turaka, napisan je u stilu epskih prica i pesama o junacima kojima su hrabrost i cast bili najvazniji. Pored opisa zivota obicnih ljudi i znamenitih istorijskih licnosti toga burnog istorijskog perioda, roman prati i ljubavnu pricu glavnog junaka i njegove izabranice Jelice. Zbog svadje sa najboljim prijateljem oko devojke, Stanko odlazi u hajduke i tamo postaje surovi borac za pravdu.

Veselinovic's beloved historical novel braids adventure and romance against the uprisings of the late Ottoman Balkans. Stanko, fired by honor and a fatal quarrel over love, takes to the hills and becomes a relentless fighter for justice. Rich in folk tone and vivid scenes of village life, Hajduk Stanko celebrates courage while never losing sight of the human heart. A cornerstone of Serbian popular classics.
