Historically speaking, the character trait of humility has been a core value in many cultures since ancient times. It has been important for its basis in politics, ethics, morality, and religion. Culturally speaking, the secular world describes humility as living a life of mediocrity, weakness, neediness, and even un-exceptionalism. Scriptural speaking, the term humility is defined as not thinking of oneself more highly than one should. To be thoughtful in one's judgment. To act according to God's Word. Humanly speaking, Mary, the mother of Jesus exemplified a moral high ground, revealed true modesty, responded to life with empathy, acknowledging others, showed respect, understanding limitations, and expressed compassion. She was not proud, arrogant, or self-important. She set an example of humbleness for all of us.
