It was on the night of the 6th of December, 2025, that even as he lay helpless on his bed, my Dadaji spoke these timeless words, demonstrating immense reserves of resilience and strength within him. The context was me having a dialogue with him about an episode of his own life, in an attempt to help him regain his memory after the massive stroke he had suffered a month back. But what he spoke next went far beyond the context of this dialogue. It was him summing up his whole life in his own words: Hum Haarte Nahi. And this was indeed true. He never lost. Or at least, he never considered himself to have lost. How could he? A boy born in a family that did not have enough to eat, that did not have enough to sell, that did not have enough land to farm, could never have lost. He had nothing to lose! He had only to gain. The only thing, then, that mattered was his resilience, his endurance in tough times, his aspirations, his progressivism, his hard work, and his faith in himself. And my Dadaji had all of these. And so, when Dadaji spoke these timeless words, it was not his arrogance speaking up. It was his grassroots resilience, his spirit of struggle, his will to work hard, his confidence in himself, and his belief in justice that were speaking up! He was also sending a message to the younger generations not to give up in testing times. In this age of extreme sensitivity and mental health crisis, these words echo strength and willingness to struggle.
