Join this young fox as he teaches his mother how to read! You'll see examples of what to do and say to help a new reader--all while laughing together as the grownup learns five key reading strategies!
In this one-of-a-kind book, your young reader will be introduced to reading strategies, but more importantly, you will learn how to help your child learn to read! You will be introduced to the way reading teachers teach reading!
With this book, you and your new reader will understand and become confident in:
- 1 to 1 Correspondence
- Self-monitoring
- Searching for Clues
- Looking at the Picture
- Familiar Reading
Build happy readers in the classroom and at home with this family of foxes! The mother fox will go through what most early readers experience (you'll see!). The young fox will respond with phrases that will make learning to read a positive experience every step of the way!
Every year she taught first grade, Lindsey Michaels had students' parents asking her questions to help their readers at home. She loved offering help and passed out handouts for the adults to read. But you know what would be even better? A picture book they could read with their child that would do two things: help kids and answer parents' questions.
This would only work with an illustrator that could make it entertaining, fun, and a little silly! Then kids will want to read it again and again as they soak in the reading tips! James Koenig's illustrations will draw children in and make grownups laugh as they relate to the fox family's emotions a little too well.
Parents and kids will gain confidence by hearing certain phrases that help new readers:
- Good readers stop at a tricky part!
- How did you know that wasn't the right word?
- Good readers fix their mistakes!
- Beginning readers become better readers with familiar books!
- Instead of looking at me, let's look at the word to figure it out together!
So snuggle up with your little one and learn how a new reader uses the same reading strategies that an experienced reader uses. (It's true!) A great reading foundation for your confident reader is ready and waiting!
