Horn of Plenty: The Story of Louis Armstrong is a biographical book written by Robert Goffin. The book chronicles the life and career of jazz legend Louis Armstrong, from his humble beginnings in New Orleans to his rise to international fame as a musician and entertainer. Goffin delves into Armstrong's early years, including his impoverished upbringing and his introduction to music through a local reform school. The book also explores Armstrong's early career as a trumpet player in New Orleans, where he honed his skills and gained a reputation as a virtuoso musician. As Armstrong's career progressed, Goffin details his move to Chicago and his association with the influential jazz group, the Hot Five. The book also examines Armstrong's collaborations with other notable musicians, including Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Throughout the book, Goffin offers insights into Armstrong's personal life, including his relationships with women and his struggles with racism and discrimination. He also explores Armstrong's impact on the world of music, and his enduring legacy as one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. Overall, Horn of Plenty offers a fascinating and comprehensive look at the life and career of Louis Armstrong, and is a must-read for fans of jazz music and American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
