What more could a man expect out of life? Raylan Covy left home at sixteen pursuing dangerous careers in the US Cavalry, as a US Marshal, as a hired gun. Always looking for a new adventure and never looking back, Alaska enticed him. He found success again, as an entrepreneur.

A voice from his past that had been calling to him for over ten years reaches him in the form of letters written by the only woman he had ever loved.

Rachel Vale defies social norms of the late 1800s. At twenty she inherited Canyon Creek Ranch in Wyoming from her father and fought to establish her authority and expand upon Frank Vale's success. Her vibrant beauty and passion for this land of horses drew Raylan in for a romance that was as fast and deep as the river that coursed through it. But with his youthful appetite for adventure and fear of losing his freedom, he rode out of her life. The promise to return never fulfilled.

Letters she writes over the ensuing years reveal her anxious watch for his return, the progress and struggles of her ranch, her enduring patience and fidelity.

But the most startling revelation is yet to come.

The possibility that he has lost out on a thing he didn't know he had brings him to a crossroad in his life. He must go home to Canyon Creek.
