Safdar is a restless soul; he can't stay put in one place. Fed up with the chaos and corruption in India, he finds refuge in remote Canada, where he comes to appreciate the quiet, organized pace of life. But over time, the anodyne orderliness of this cold and indifferent land wears him down, and ennui begins to gnaw at his soul. Then, one day, he witnesses a senseless shooting that brings him face to face with death. Frightened out of his wits, he packs his bags and flees back home, seeking solace in the lap of his mother and motherland. But home is no longer the place he left behind. Bigotry fills the air, and sectarian hatred has stained the warp and weft of society.
Safdar struggles to adjust to this new reality, and even when he finds love, it is complicated--challenging him to choose between love and friendship. With a conflicted heart, he escapes to the hinterland, where he ends up making powerful enemies. He refuses to bend to their will, paying a heavy price for it. Disgusted and dispirited, he moves back to Canada, only to find that he has yet to make one final move.
