This book is the result of the author's process of getting closer to Home Care, which began with caring for bedridden people on the outskirts of Recife/PE during his residency in Family and Community Medicine, and went through his participation in the design and implementation of the Better at Home Program, a strategy of the Brazilian Federal Government to expand and qualify this type of care in the Unified Health System (SUS), and culminated in his master's degree, the object of which was Home Care. This is a topic whose importance is justified by the epidemiological and demographic transition underway in the country, by its greater cost-benefit compared to hospital care and by the need to build new forms of health care, in which the focus and center are people. Finally, it is worth highlighting the need to produce and disseminate knowledge about home care, especially in the context of a country like Brazil, whose national health system is large and complex, and whose ethical/technical/political project is disputed on a daily basis.
