Eva Mary Baye McIsaac was an ordinary Ontario farm wife - daily Mass, the Rosary, eight children, a wood-fired stove. She was not looking for God to find her in any unusual way. Then a wound appeared on the back of her right hand. It did not heal. Others followed - on both hands, both feet, her left side, her hairline, her back. Every Friday evening at exactly six o'clock, the wounds opened and she entered three hours of agony that ended, without fail, at nine. For years. Under the eyes of neighbors, priests, and eventually two Cardinals and twenty-three physicians who could not explain what they were witnessing.
This is the story that Canada forgot.
The Holy Wounds of Uptergrove reconstructs, for the first time in book form, the complete account of one of the most thoroughly investigated stigmatic cases in North American history - and one of the least known. Drawing on the original 1950 Maclean's and TIME magazine investigations, parish records, genealogical archives, and the full tradition of Catholic mystical theology, this book tells the story of:
- Twenty-three Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish physicians who examined Eva across five weeks of round-the-clock hospital observation - ruled out fraud, and could not produce a natural explanation
- The clock experiment - an elegant investigative test that eliminated the most obvious hypothesis and only deepened the mystery
- Friday visions in which Eva described first-century Jerusalem in historically accurate detail - architecture, clothing, Roman military insignia, and Aramaic dialects she had no natural means of knowing
- Two Cardinals who came to her farmhouse, an Italian bishop who brought a rosary blessed by Pope Pius XII, and a planned audience in Rome
- The sacred ground: thirty miles of Ontario Highway 12 connecting Eva's grave to the Martyrs' Shrine at Midland - the same Huron territory where Jean de Brébeuf was martyred in 1649
- The husband who stayed, the children she buried, the daily Mass she never missed, and the simplicity that never changed despite national attention

Her weekly Friday cycle mirrors that of Saint Catherine de' Ricci. Her visions parallel those of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich. Her character - simple, obedient, utterly without self-promotion - matches what the Church looks for in every genuine case it has ever approved.
Eva McIsaac may have carried Wendat blood - the blood of a people who received the Catholic faith from men who died for it on the same land where she bled. This book names that connection for the first time and shows why it matters theologically.
