Holy Mother's Delight

Holy Motheras Delight is a book written in celebration of the feminine spirit. Both men and women in the central characteras family are nurturing to children, animals and their crops. The child, Delight, was so named by her father because of his delight at her birth. The darker side of this story reveals conflict between Protestants and Catholics, misconceptions about mental illness, classism and attitudes of rural, Midwestern whites towards African-Americans with whom they have had little or no opportunity to interact. The novel also chronicles a fast-disappearing way of life in the rural Midwest and pays tribute to those of our American ancestors who farmed the land. At its core, Holy Motheras Delight is a story of feminine strength as well as a tribute to those ancestors, linking the past with the present and future in a spirit of compassion.
