Clayton is the new kid on the block. Shy and introverted, he's struggling with his new surroundings. Enter Keyon, an ambitious young basketball jock with dreams of making it big in the world. Together, they're growing up in the racially-charged,1970's Long Island. There's only one thing that brings them together, and that's being part of an underground music genre that would later be known as Hip-Hop. Mike James wrote his first novel, inspired by his life on Long Island as a teenager. The characters in the story are based on individuals he went to high school with and their obsession with Dee-Jaying. Created in 1973 in the Bronx by the legendary DJ Kool Herc, Dee-Jaying, which involved scratching and sampling parts of a song on a record, became a phenomenon that spread thru New York City, Long Island and New Jersey, and eventually captured the music world thru Hip-Hop.
