They didn't ask if Eli Mercer did it. They already knew. When someone writes ELI MERCER IS A LIAR AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN across Westmere Middle School's trophy case, Eli expects questions. Evidence. Maybe even a chance to defend himself. Instead, he gets detention. Not regular detention. A hidden room beneath the school called B-11, where students spend their afternoons filling legal pads with the same sentence: I will not lie. At first, the punishment seems harmless. Then Eli starts losing things. Small things. >Memories. Records. Pieces of himself. A lunch account he never used. An attendance violation he never earned. Teachers who stop remembering him correctly. Friends who begin recalling events that never happened. As the school quietly rewrites the truth around him, Eli discovers that Room B-11 was never designed to punish students. It was built to correct the record. Deep beneath the school, hidden behind locked doors and forgotten files, are the originals-the memories that existed before they were edited, replaced, and filed away. And Eli is not the first student this has happened to. Somewhere in the archives is a file from 1942 describing a boy with the same habits. The same fears. The same insistence that he was innocent. The school wrote down the truth. Then buried it. Now Eli has only a few days to prove what really happened before the official version becomes the only version anyone remembers. Because Westmere Middle School does not punish the guilty. It perfects the record.
