Holdenhurst Hall is a novel written by Walter Bloomfield and first published in 1895. The story is set in the English countryside and follows the lives of the wealthy family who reside in the titular Holdenhurst Hall. The family is led by the patriarch, Sir John Holdenhurst, who is a stern and traditional man, set in his ways and determined to maintain the family's reputation and status. The novel explores themes of love, family, and the conflict between tradition and modernity. The story follows the lives of the various members of the Holdenhurst family, including Sir John's daughter, Edith, who is torn between her love for a young artist and her duty to marry a wealthy, titled gentleman. Meanwhile, Sir John's son, Jack, is struggling to find his place in the world and is torn between his father's expectations and his own desires. As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed, relationships are tested, and the family is forced to confront the changing times and their own prejudices and biases. The novel ultimately explores the question of whether tradition and the past can be reconciled with progress and the future.Holdenhurst Hall is a classic example of Victorian literature, with its richly drawn characters, intricate plot, and exploration of social issues of the time. It remains a popular read for those interested in historical fiction and the social norms and values of the Victorian era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
