Excerpt: ... Grand bodies instituted by the Supreme Chancellor on his journey to California, a journey in the course of which six Grand Lodges were organized. The first officers were as follows: Rev. Wm. Gerhard!1, Venerable Grand Patriarch. Chas. H. Edgecomb, Grand Chancellor. J. Hope Suter, Grand Vice-Chancellor. J. Rufus Sm1th, Grand Recording and Corre-sponding Scribe. Jno. F. Sm1th, Grand Banker. John H. M1ller, Grand Scribe. J. H. M'atee, Grand Inner Steward. Henry H1llard, Grand Outer Steward. Sometime in October, 1869, the Grand Chancellor Edgecomb was suspended by his Lodge for twelve months. Brother Edgecomb appealed, and ie case was taken before the Supreme Lodge, where a Committee reported that they found nothing to warrant suspension, and directed that he be reinstated with full honors. This closes the list of States, twelve, in which Lodges had been planted previous to the session of the Supreme Lodge in March, 1869. E have brought our history of the introduction of the Order into different States down to the session of the Supreme Lodge at Richmond, 1869. In this chapter we shall give an account of its extension during the Pythian year 1869-70. The first State into which it was introduced was OHIO. On the 5 th of March a dispensation was made out for Steuben Lodge, No. 1, at Steubenville, in this State. The application for this Charter had been made through the exertions of Supreme Banker Wm. A. Porter, of Philadelphia. Brother Geo. B.
