The History Of The Devils Of Loudun V1-3 is a three-volume book written by Edmund Goldsmid in 1887. The book covers the alleged possession of the Ursuline nuns and the trial and execution of Urbain Grandier, a French Catholic priest who was accused of witchcraft and of being in league with the devil. The events took place in the town of Loudun in France in the 17th century. The book provides a detailed account of the events leading up to the possession of the nuns, the exorcisms that took place, and the trial and execution of Grandier. The author draws on a range of primary sources, including court records, eyewitness accounts, and contemporary pamphlets, to provide a comprehensive and engaging narrative of these events.Goldsmid's book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of witchcraft, possession, and exorcism. It offers a unique insight into the religious and political tensions of the time and the ways in which they played out in the lives of ordinary people. The book is also an important historical document, shedding light on a little-known episode in French history that has fascinated scholars and the public alike for centuries. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
