History of Christianity to the Time of Constantine is a book written by Frederic Dan Huntington and first published in 1860. The book provides a comprehensive account of the history of Christianity from its origins to the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine. It covers the growth of Christianity in the Roman Empire, the persecution of Christians, the emergence of Christian doctrine, and the development of the early Church. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which covers a specific period in the history of Christianity. The first chapter discusses the origins of Christianity and the life of Jesus Christ. The following chapters explore the spread of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire and the various challenges it faced, including persecution, heresy, and schism. Huntington also delves into the theological debates that shaped early Christianity, such as the nature of Christ, the Trinity, and the role of the Church in salvation. He provides detailed accounts of the Councils of Nicaea and Chalcedon, which were pivotal in defining orthodox Christian doctrine. The book concludes with an examination of the reign of Constantine, who is credited with legalizing Christianity and making it the official religion of the Roman Empire. Huntington discusses the significance of this event and its impact on the development of Christianity in the centuries that followed. Overall, History of Christianity to the Time of Constantine is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the early history of Christianity. It provides a detailed and well-researched account of the major events and figures that shaped the religion in its formative years. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
