Hamari Thaati is a humble endeavor to preserve this very heritage. Spanning the year from Chaitra to Phalguna, it compiles the annual fasts, festivals, puja rituals, essential materials, ujman (completion ceremonies), traditional stories, mantras, aartis, folk songs, and those nuanced little customs that bring a sense of wholeness to every festival-practices that Marwari families have observed with love and reverence for generations.
This book is not written in the complex vocabulary of ancient scriptures, but rather in the comforting, familiar language of the home. Just as a wise and experienced mother patiently explains the sentiment, method, and significance of every ritual to her daughter, this book gently holds the reader's hand, guiding them and connecting them to their roots.
This book is for families who wish to safeguard their cultural values and pass them on to the next generation, as well as for those who are embracing and learning these traditions for the very first time.
