HERO: FORGOTTEN WATCHERS
He put his father in prison. Now the tyrant may walk free-and the woman Cere dismissed as weak may be the only person he can trust.
Valen Cere Thorne did what no one else was willing to do. He arrested his own father.
Vexis Thorne built VIP-D into an empire of power, corruption, and fear. When Cere turned against him, he inherited everything Vexis left behind-the organization, the enemies, and a legacy Cere is determined to repair.
He thought putting his father behind bars was the hard part. He was wrong. Vexis's trial has been corrupted. Evidence is compromised. Powerful people want him free. And if Vexis walks out of prison, Cere knows exactly who he'll come for first. The son who betrayed him.
Cere needs people he can trust. Instead, he gets Era Walker.
She's smart, organized, desperately in need of a job, and completely unaware that the arrogant man interviewing her isn't quite human. Cere asks the question that matters.
Is she a Citizen? Era thinks he means a citizen of the United States. She's not.
Cere hears exactly what he expects to hear. She's Vanguardian.
Era doesn't particularly care what her difficult new boss thinks. She needs a paycheck. She's never heard of Vanguardians and has no idea Cere believes she's one.
As Vexis's trial unravels, allies become liabilities and old loyalties fracture. Yet the supposedly weak woman Cere underestimated remains beside him-organizing his chaos, challenging him, and refusing to be intimidated.
Somewhere along the way, Cere stops seeing Era as his assistant. He starts seeing her. Gentle, but not weak. Infuriating. Indispensable. And increasingly impossible to resist.
Then Cere feels the Zing-the unmistakable connection between Vanguardian fated mates.
His mate is out there. And Cere is convinced he knows where. Back in his homeland. Among his own people. A Vanguardian woman fate has chosen for him.
It has to be.
Because Cere believes in separation. Vanguardians belong with Vanguardians. Citizens belong with Citizens.
There's only one possibility he never considers. Era. The woman he's falling for. The woman he already asked if she was a Citizen. She told him no.
Neither of them understood the question.
When the truth finally comes out, Cere's beliefs collide with an impossible reality.
Era isn't Vanguardian.
She's human.
A Citizen.
And she's his fated mate.
For Era, discovering her boss isn't entirely human is only the beginning. She's fallen into a hidden world she never knew existed-and discovered Cere has some deeply troubling ideas about people like her.
Being his mate doesn't make those beliefs disappear.
And Era refuses to become his exception.
If Cere wants her, the Zing won't be enough. He has to question everything he believes about blood, power, and who deserves to stand beside him.
And he's running out of time.
Because Vexis is getting closer to freedom.
If he escapes justice, he isn't simply coming back for VIP-D.
He's coming for Cere.
As his father's shadow closes in, Cere must decide which parts of his inheritance are worth saving-and which should end with him.
The woman he dismissed as weak is stronger than he ever imagined.
The human he never dreamed fate would choose is the woman he can't imagine losing.
And the mate he's been searching for?
She's been standing beside him all along.
HERO: FORGOTTEN WATCHERS is a slow-burn science-fiction/paranormal romance featuring boss and assistant, mistaken identity, fated mates, forbidden human/Vanguardian love, grumpy/sunshine, an underestimated heroine, prejudice confronted, redemption, political intrigue, the Zing, and a guaranteed HEA.
HERO is a standalone romance in the interconnected Vanguardians series. Era and Cere get their happily-ever-after, so you can begin here. Want the complete Vanguardian experience? Start with NOMAD: FORSAKEN LORIAN.
