The Hermit and the Visitor explores a theme dear to Dostoevsky, a variation between good and evil, the sanctity of an Orthodox hermit, a kindred soul to St. Seraphim of Sarov, and the voyeurism of a journalist who spies on the saint's ecstasies and attempts to appropriate his gifts. The writing brings to mind Andrei Tarkovsky's film, Andrei Rublev, with its nuances and punctuality. One enters this visionary text, delving into the duality of every human being, the aspect that uplifts or the aspect that causes one to fall, with a possible redemption lying between the two.
