Henry Ossian Flipper: The Colored Cadet at West Point is a memoir written by Henry Ossian Flipper, the first African American to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The book details Flipper's experiences as a cadet at West Point in the late 1800s, including the discrimination and racism he faced from both his fellow cadets and some of his superiors. Flipper also describes the rigorous academic and physical training required of cadets at West Point, as well as his experiences serving in the U.S. Army after graduation. The book provides a unique perspective on the history of race relations in the U.S. military, as well as the challenges faced by African Americans during the Reconstruction era.An officer who was in his tent near by came out and ordered me to be put under guard in one of the guard tents, where I was kept until next morning, when I was put 'in arrest.' Wilson was taken to the hospital, where he stayed two or three weeks, and as soon as he returned to duty he was also placed in arrest. This was made the subject for a court-martial, and that court-martial will form the subject of my next communication.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
