Amos Kerr has spent his life measuring what everyone else misses.
Signals. Seconds. Bearings. Patterns in the sky.
Then something notices him back.
Abducted aboard an alien vessel, Amos discovers a civilization where everything has a place in the register: debts, gifts, status, bodies. Humans included.
To the Counters, Amos is not a prisoner.
He is an item.
And Saoren is the alien heir whose claim could change that.
Cold-skinned, impossibly powerful, and bound to the laws of a system that measures a person's worth in numbers, Saoren should represent everything Amos needs to escape. Instead, he becomes the one variable Amos cannot reduce to a calculation.
Their path is written into an ancient ritual: seven entries, one hundred days, escalating witnesses, and a claim that turns every act of intimacy into something that can be recorded, measured, and owned.
But the closer Amos gets to Saoren, the more dangerous one question becomes:
What is the difference between being claimed and choosing to stay?
Because Amos has spent his entire life recording what happened.
He has never learned how to ask for what he wants.
And Saoren belongs to a civilization that has almost forgotten how to ask at all.
A Held Thing is a dark, emotionally intense MM science-fiction romance about alien abduction, captivity, consent, obsession, and the terrifying intimacy of being truly seen.
