I am one of the fortunate ones whose parents supported me through my health issues with polio and provided me with the means to attend school and eventually earn a medical degree. I have experienced disability first-hand and share my experience in this book to help others who face similar challenges.
First, my family is the reason for my success. Without their hard work and support, I could not have achieved all I have in becoming a cardiologist. I also thank my husband for his understanding and help with my studies and career. Everyone with or without a disability can benefit from a caring support system of family and friends who believe in your goals and will help you attain them.
I encourage readers to persevere in their quest for success, whatever form that may take. Never give up and gratefully accept the help and support that are offered.
Since 1988, global polio cases have fallen by 99.9%. With more education and awareness of the impact of disabilities in a global society, nations are taking measures to address inequities and difficulties facing those with disabilities. Sunita Dodani is one of the fortunate ones whose parents supported her through her health issues with polio and provided her the means to attend school and earn her medical degree.
