Moving from Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, India, and China to modern acoustics, neuroscience, and music therapy, the book examines why sound can calm, connect, motivate, disturb, manipulate, or even cause physical harm. It explains how hearing works, how rhythm and music influence memory, movement, stress, and emotion, and why personal history and cultural meaning often matter as much as frequency itself.
The book also investigates the darker side of sound: environmental noise, hearing damage, propaganda, coercive sonic technologies, and the psychological effects of unwanted exposure. Popular claims surrounding 432 Hz, 528 Hz, Solfeggio frequencies, binaural beats, cymatics, resonance, and healing frequencies are examined with curiosity but without exaggeration.
